"  independent study,
community service, adventures
and experience,
large doses of privacy and
solitude, a thousand different
apprenticeships -
these are all powerful, cheap
and effective ways to
start a real reform of schooling."

Only One Life

Only one life, the still small voice,
   Gently pleads for a better choice
Bidding me selfish aims to leave,
   And to God's holy will to cleave;
Only one life, 'twill soon be past,
   Only what's done for Christ will last.

When this bright world would tempt me sore,
   When Satan would a victory score;
When self would seek to have its way,
   Then help me Lord with joy to say;
Only one life, 'twill soon be past,
   Only what's done for Christ will last.

Give me Father, a purpose deep,
   In joy or sorrow Thy word to keep;
Faithful and true what e'er the strife,
   Pleasing Thee in my daily life;
Only one life, 'twill soon be past,
   Only what's done for Christ will last.

Thanksgiving Bike Ride

Lydia just learnt to ride a two-wheeler bike a couple weeks ago.

Anna and I pretending we don't like each other.... we really do :D

For Thanksgiving this year we went on a bike ride around Lake Hefner. It is about 12 miles around the lake. The weather was really nice that day, so we it was alot of fun! It took us about 3 hours.

Character Training

"Don't get carried away with stuffing knowledge into your child while neglecting his character training.  A child with a properly trained character has the ability to learn when necessity calls for it.  He must learn the value of prompt, cheerful obedience and be able to apply himself to the job at hand.  Go to the Lord and ask Him for a vision to install Godly character in each of your children..."

We went to Arkansas last weekend for a friend's 13th Birthday party. They had dinner and a picture slideshow on Friday evening and then there was a rockclimbing event on Saturday. It was at the Horseshoe Canyon ranch in Jasper, AR. Some of us camped on Friday night, there were 8 in the girls tent so it was alot of fun :) Enjoy all the pictures!

{silly} sisters

Don't I look cute and harmless?
I forgot to smile for this one....

This is my "crooked head" smile

This is my "got something up my sleeve" laugh/smile
I totally missed a spot on my chin.....
She thought is was pretty fun to smear dirt all over herself, and then take pictures :)

I took these pictures of Lydia and Sarah the other day.....

2 weeks ago there were some wildfires in Oklahoma City, about 5 miles North of us. These are some of the pictures Sarah got while we were driving by.

County Fair 2011

Our family entered 10 different kinds of ice-cream this year, in the ice-cream freeze off at the county fair about 2 weeks ago. Anna entered Banana Pudding, Chocolate Peanut Butter and Chocolate icecreams. Sarah entered Mint Chocolate, Vanilla and Chocolate. Daddy entered a strange concoction of peach, chocolate, jalapeno and coffee ice-cream.... he made up the recipe :) Lydia entered Raspberry lemonade ice-cream and I entered Apple Pie and Vanilla Mint. We brought home a bunch of ribbons, with Anna winning first place with the Banana Pudding ice-cream. We will get some of the recipes up soon! Some of us also entered in the Salsa contest. Daddy, Anna and Sarah placed.

Afterwards we went over to one of the horse barns with some friends and watched some 4H horse events.
